Take your business license and any other documentation you have for the DBA status to the bank the check is drawn on and they should cash it for you. You may have to talk to a manager.

If this doesn't work, try taking the same documentation to your bank to deposit in your personal account. You may have to wait for the funds until the check clears, especially if it is drawn on an out-of-state bank.

Last resort, have the customer issue a new check in your name.

Try opening a business account at another bank ASAP.

If you don't want to pay a ridiculous fee at "Check Cashing" place, you ask the payor of the check to kindly issue another check made out to your name instead of the company. You can say that you are in the process of opening a bank account under the company name but you hadn't gotten around to doing it yet. You return the check to them so that they can destroy it rather than having to make the stop payment (fee involved).

Some of the check cashing places are now taking business checks - you could try them.

Places like Money Mart, for instance.
