How can I find cheap entertainment law advice for a Web startup? Ideally in exchange for equity?

I would mostly need film, book, video game option contracts, which are standard forms, I believe, but of course you always want a lawyer to help you pick the right forms.

This is a WAY early startup based in Los Angeles, Calif. Paying a lawyer isn’t a great option just yet, but there are some smart, experienced Internet pros involved.

  • the wise one:

Good luck most lawyers want cash.

The only you could get legal advice for free or for equity is to have a partner who is also a lawyer and is enthusiastic about the business.

But if that was the case why would he need you??????

Bottom line, pay your lawyer in cash to get the best results and don’t take on any partners especially a lawyer.

The problem with partnerships is that many times partners argue over where their 50% ends and your 50% begins.
